This project explores themes of transform and fashion trends. This project has enabled me to learn about things that are not in my field, like fashion designers and fashion trends. This animation is to let young people know that the fashion trends always change, so they should not blindly pursue fashion trends and lose themselves.
Biography
My name is YiLin Wang and I am from China. I have been interested in animation since I was a kid. And I will be studying BA (Hons) Animation at LCC next year. In future I hope to create more characters and make 3D animations.
Before I made this animation, I did a lot OF primary and secondary researches. I also got some inspiration from them. For example, In the animation “Who are you”, I referred to the painting style of this animation and I learned about the current fashion trends in the works of Japanese Illustrator Fouatons. And I visited the panda base during the Easter Holiday and it provide me the reference material for the previous part of the animation.
Si Chuan, panda base
However, I think there are some shortcomings in my animation. For instance, it is not smooth in the scene that people walk. In addition, I think I can improve the painting style tO make this animation more lovely and dreamy. If I could add the process of the panda find the secret door and the panda return the “Panda world” at the end.
character design
The characters I designed before were all too anime, so I changed the style of drawing to this simple style.

Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts covers an area of 5,862 square meters and located on the Fenyang Road. In the main building, there are three exhibition halls: embroidery, sculpture and folk arts, which basically cover the traditional arts and crafts in urgent need of protection in Shanghai. Its appearance is a white building garden house, and is known as the “Little White House”.
The appearance of the museum
It was the first office of the United Nations World Health Organization in the Asia-Pacific region after 1948. In early 1949, the Shanghai branch of China – Soviet Union Friendship Association settled here. In 1963, under the care of Chen Yi, the most outstanding folk arts and crafts artists in Shanghai worked again and passed on their arts and crafts. At the same time, they also established a showroom of arts and crafts.
The interior structure of the museum
In addition, today’s China has absorbed a large number of foreign cultures. Western art and design concepts have imperceptible influence on Chinese traditional culture( Chinese Arts and crafts, 2021). Traditional industries pose a huge threat. This threat has caused a lot of loopholes, such as the aging of the traditional craftsmen, how many young people are willing to work in such a weak industry; When the craftsmen live in a society that keeps pace with The Times, whether they still adhere to the old ideas of production and whether they should use traditional techniques to create new concepts of handicrafts to attract the attention of young people; If so, presumably will be the older generation of arts and crafts masters of the new ideas of the suppression, to be criticized.
Traditional arts and crafts is a kind of creative activity of human cultural behavior, it is not only a kind of art, a production process, but also a precious cultural heritage. In this museum, there are also many ivory products on display, which are beautiful and delicate. Moreover, the process of making ivory products is also very complicated. The first thing to do is to polish the ivory, which is usually done with raspgrass (a grass stem with longitudinal lines on the surface) and light leaves (the outer shell of winter bamboo shoots). It is followed by the production of car spin. Finally, it can sculpted.

But when it comes to obtaining the raw material, ivory (Ivory Trade, 2018), it is often bloody and brutal. The huge profits from ivory smuggling have led many poachers to kill elephants (stop ivory, June 2013). In order to reduce profits and save costs, poachers have no respect for life, and the way they kill elephants is very brutal. The cruelty was unspeakable. In fact, if we are even remotely aware of the bloody process of ivory extraction, we will realize that ivory is not a good thing to keep in our home, or even make into Buddhist pearl. Besides, not to mention the process of making ivory, but to mention the role elephants play in the ecological environment, ivory cannot represent wealth and Buddha nature. Elephants have been called “forest gardeners” and are essential communicators in terms of biological exchange and diversity. So if elephants go extinct, the environment of the earth will be affected to some extent, which will certainly lead to the complex collapse of the ecosystem, so ivory, even if reluctantly obtained, is extremely inappropriate as a Buddhist pearl.
In addition, today’s China has absorbed a large number of foreign cultures. Western art and design concepts have imperceptible influence on Chinese traditional culture.
As far as I am concerned, I don’t want to see the decline of Chinese traditional process, it is China’s unique art supplies, even the traditional manual art to incorporate new elements, new ideas can be, it is important to get traditional craft techniques cannot be lost, can’t let see now elegant handicraft sometime in the future can only be on display at the museum, like ancient bronze ware, people can only sigh at its exquisite. For ivory products, I think we can use another raw material to sculpted. This practice not only protects elephants and ecological environment, but also carries on the tradition of this craft.

The story happened in a panda, she will see different passengers every day, so she has a strong curiosity about the outside world. One night, in her dream, she came into the human world.
The image of the main character in this story is divided into four stages. In the first stage, when the panda was first introduced to the human society, I was not quite used to her present appearance (as can be seen from the bamboo in her basket) and she wore not very fashionable clothes.
First Stage
The second stage happened in the Tang Dynasty, when she found many people wearing beautiful clothes. So she began to wear pretty dresses too.
Second Stage
During the third period of the Republic of China, cheongsam became very popular, so she began to wear it, and learned to dress herself and change her hair. (At this time, she was not so full of curiosity and vitality as when she first came to the human society.)
Third Stage
In the fourth stage of modern society, people pay more attention to dress matching due to the great improvement of people’s living quality, so she almost changes her clothes every day and pursues the fashion trend of big brands. Because she is constantly changing her style of dressing to suit others’ tastes, she even forgets who she used to be and feels sad for her present life. She lay on the ground in despair, and suddenly, the dream woke up, and she was back to her old life.
The Corpse Bride is a satirical stop-motion animated film directed by Tim Burton. In this film, except Tim Burton, no one else can handle the Gothic style so delicately, the imagination so fervently, and the jokes so methodically. In fact, this movie is not as scary as the title shows. On the contrary, it actually conveys more warm feelings.
The story of The Corpse Bride has its roots in 19th-century Russian folklore, where radical antisemitism often targeted Jewish wedding brocades and killed the only bride who could carry on the Jewish family line. So couples of brides were buried by the side of the road in their dresses, and they died unexplained. In this movie, the ancient age and the seemingly isolated town make it seem like a place for ghosts to appear here. Another film with a similar scene is Sleepy Hollow, where the similarly tragic and terrifying headless horseman fits seamlessly with the time and place so that greatly adding to the horrific atmosphere.
The human’s world in this film is Gothic style, with dark colors, low music and people’s sad expressions to show the darkness of the world. In the hell, on the contrary, the bright colors and cheerful music represent a joyful and harmonious atmosphere, which constitutes a sharp contrast with the lifeless scenes of human life. The grotesque modeling of the ghosts with special skills to wantonly performance and singing and dancing from time to time in the audience surprise. Tim Burton excels at panoramas of hell and the scenes of monsters dancing in chaos. Dating back to Beetle juice, in which ghosts on the waiting list show off their strange appearances, as well as its depiction of the human world as a confusing problem. He used interesting strange artistic way to reduce the horror feeling, and he always degenerated into mystery, with imagination and superb funny skill, let audience understand that joy is the main melody of hell.
The film always emphasizes the loveliness and kindness of the corpse bride in hell, which is in obvious contrast to the mercenary interests of Victor’s parents and Victoria’s parents on Earth. And Victor run away from the church, as well as Emily and Victor married, but the skeletons rushed to the world into the church. They are on the real life of the people of the world mercenary, ruthless exposure.
There is oppression, there is resistance, the corpse bride Emily and human bride Victoria are under the thick color of the resistance representatives. Victoria later falls in love with Victor, but is forced to marry the evil count after Victor’s disappearance, thus making what looks like a weak resistance in the eyes of outsiders. Victoria’s goodness and purity are far from the corpse bride’s brilliant, but the director did not ignore Victoria, from time to time on her to cast a finishing touch, so that her image is still clear and distinct. Looking back at the life story of Emily , we can easily find that she is also a victim of marriage, and also a secular person who ruined her life. From Victor to wear ring for her accidentally that moment rises, she also begins to experience the joy of marriage again and look forward to, persistent with tenacity, to the final marriage burst with the heart relieved like that. The director placed a lot of intentions on these two women’s body pursuit, make the Victor that serves as the hero appears dim without light, decide to sacrifice oneself such a major turning point also comes quite abrupt. But promoting women’s rights sometimes requires suppressing male fervor, and Victor’s feminine, decadent temperament is just the kind of concession needed.
At the end of the film, Emily finds out the murderer who cheated and killed her, and helps Victor and Victoria to get married. The skeletons return to the hell and the world returns to tranquility, which also shows us that the director Tim Burton’s yearning for a better future for the world.

In a workshop on my first project at LCC, we were asked to design a game as a team for the first time. This group was divided into three tasks, making game rules, designing game characters and designing game board. When we were divided into groups and had a discussion, I was very nervous because I was not very confident in my English. We all come from different countries, so English is not our first language. In addition, as a result of the epidemic, we were taking online classes and we haven’t met several times before, which makes us feel strange and shy. At the beginning of the discussion, sometimes we could not understand the key words of each other’s narrative because our English was not standard enough. And our English level are uneven, some students speak fast, so I have no idea what they are saying. Therefore we typed the content into the chat room and we started by talking about examples that we could use, and each of us wanted to use the games that we knew about as examples. But unfortunately, neither of us had heard of the other’s games, so we were stuck in a stalemate. At this time, a Korean girl told us that she thought a famous game, German Heart Disease, and she introduced it to us. Under her introduction, we learned about the game and used it as a reference. However, we had a problem with the division of labor, because the game we were making didn’t have a game board, so we had a heated discussion. One classmate proposed to make other games, but we didn’t have enough time to do another game, so I suggested to replace the game board with the game cover and other people all agree this idea. In the end, our results were very successful. In this group cooperation, I learned that it is important to learn English well and that when discussing problems, we should put forward our opinions according to the reality instead of making pointless arguments or making ridiculous opinions. If I will have cross-cultural communication again, I will try my best to speak English as standard as possible, so that we will not feel difficult in communication. In addition, I will get to know my classmates first, so that we can be confident in the group discussion instead of feeling strange.
In this workshop, I filled a page with mark making experiments, textures and colours.

In the fusion workshop, I did these works with Sophie. Firstly, the objects we selected are panda and onion. We wanted to blend in colours, but we didn’t have any good ideas about it. So, we change to the “shape”. For the onion and the octopus, they are both round, so we thought of merging the shape of the onion with the octopus. The appearance of the sheep is similar to the clouds, which led to the combination of factories. Finally, I thought the Chinese old gold coin–gold ingot, so I make the combination with panda and it.
The whole animation is composed of 3 colors: black, white and red. What I want to refer to in this animation is the dress of the characters and the drawing method of the buildings.
Wake up call Steve Cutts
For this animation, I love the introduction about the formation of the parts for electronic equipment. And I think the black hole created by electronic garbage at the rate which people buy new electronic products in this animation is humorous. And I want to use this method in my work.
